Still Sitting
Hot on the trotters of the Devon Rexi live CD comes this amalgam of contemplative ambient qua drone compositions, featuring a selection of artists that have performed at the festival in some capacity across the many years of our existence. There’s an ever present danger when discussing music like this that you’ll inadvertently wind up sounding like a subliminal promotion for an incredibly boring mindfulness cult, but we promise that at Three Wheel Drive you will never hear us earnestly utter phrases like “new ecologies of sound” or “liminal sonic architecture”. Instead, what you will be offered are tracks from luminary artists; Fenland Drone Workshop, THE NARRATOR, DJ ojo and ditsy gloom, and you are more than welcome to relate to them with whatever degree of fervour or depth you feel is appropriate. “Sitting Still” reflects the quieter, more peaceful moments to be found at the festival and if it leaves you wanting to don white linen robes and prioritise balancing your water chakra then that’s entirely your business. Devon Rexi - Live at 3WD
Cast in your mind the image of a clearing. A basin of baying swayers line the forests of Andover, all gathered in anticipation in front of the Three Wheel Drive live stage. It’s night, the summer sun has set and the air is full of condensation and chat that’s taken its inevitable turn towards festive incoherence. Amid the garbled conversation and warm lighting, Devon Rexi take the stage. A bit of time is spent calibrating monitors, blasting rollies, tightening snare drums before things settle for a second and cymbals, bass and sirens hit the speakers. For the 6th year of the festival the Dutch Trip Hop Neo-No Wave trio brought their dubbed-out tempest to our neck of the woods and shook the earth. Melons were messed with, crowds were surfed and the entire local population of owls did that cool head-bop thing we’ve all seen them do to music in viral videos. If you were looking for hard evidence on Devon Rexi being one of the most frenetic, tight as handcuffs bands currently touring you’ll find everything you need on this CD. We’re very excited to share this incredible set with you, especially considering that it features festival mainstay, Pike, adding some extra percussive back-up to the whole affair.
